We came from Ohio just to eat here, and it surpassed all our expectations- it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The pride and passion of the staff is evident in every interaction and the food is sublime. Our server, David was incredibly knowledgeable, and his suggestions about the menu and the wine were amazing. Harvard, the head chef, hand delivered several dishes and shared the intricate processes which led to such delicious and complex food. The best part was getting to meet the kitchen crew and thank them for the rare treat of a lovingly crafted, sumptuous meal. If you are in Austin and get the chance, make this your go to spot.
We had such a wonderful experience at canje. Busy/fun fire-y atmosphere. Service was 5 star, very knowledgeable. We shared the ceviche, octopus, and curried beef with roti and rice as well as a few cocktails. Every dish and drink offered a punch of flavors and textures. Well balanced dishes and atmosphere.
We had a 7:30 reservation for a Sunday night. Seemed like many ppl walking in had reservations as well so recommend booking in advance.
That exceeded expectations. Yes, I had heard that this was one of the top 10 new restaurants in the US last year, so it had to be good, but I didn't know what to expect to I tried to stay even keeled about expectations. Everything was fantastic: The food, the service (thanks Jake!), and the atmosphere. What really stood out were the unique flavors. The experience was different than what you get most other places and I appreciated this. I must say, the jerk chicken is very spicy. It will be too spicy for many, but you can take off the skin and enjoy a less-spicy version. But even without the skin, it was flavorful and perfectly done. There wasn't a single dish that we didn't love. You know some places you really enjoy but aren't thinking about going back to immediately. I think Canje will be a place we regularly consider when we are thinking about a night out. Also, the price was very good for what we got. I was expecting it to be more expensive but it felt like a bargain for what you get. I don't always have the feeling about meals I like around Austin.
The food flavors were something out of this world .This tuna dish was not something I would regularly eat, but it was delicious. We order mutuple plates and share. Foodie lovers must give this place a try. Expect small portions.
If you haven't been to Canje and you live in or around the Austin area, you are really missing out. We started out with 2 amazingly made cocktails, 3 appetizers, then 2 entrees and 4 sides. Everything was so delicious, and the server was very knowledgeable. Also, I am not sure if you have noticed lately, but it is hard to find servers who are genuinely happy about being at work. These servers at Canje seemed to really love what they were doing and who they were working with. If I lived in Austin, I would be here multiple times a month. Kuddos, too, the leadership team. You are doing something right!
Honestly just feeling blown away. We went for a birthday and it couldn’t have gone better if we would have planned it ourselves. The staff were all AMAZING, celebratory, friendly, and helpful. Shout out Harvard and the rest of the kitchen team. Also, had an amazing server Rachel (hoping I spelled that right) who had great energy and was really helpful when it came to figuring out what to eat. Can’t wait to come back, and would recommend the jerk chicken and the oxtail pies.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in my 18 years in Austin. Went for our anniversary, and were immediately served complimentary champagne. We had the ceviche, mojo fish, curry wagyu, roti, and sweet plantains. Took a black cake to go. Everything was mouth-watering good. The chef came by and chatted with us for a few minutes which was the cherry on top. We’ll be back!!! The music was a vibe, too.
Great food and service! Nice flavors, building spice and entrees that are actually better than the appetizers, which are good. The wine by the glass paired well with the food - and they offered samples. Owner is the same as Hestia. This is a must try in Austin. We ate too fast for good pictures. Really yummy! Kids loved it too.
